MMDA Deploys Team to Paeng-hit Maguindanao
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) deployed today a 28-man team to provide assistance to affected communities in Maguindanao province following the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng last week.
MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Romando Artes said the team, composed of personnel from the Public Safety Division, shall move from one calamity-stricken town in Maguindanao to another to provide clean water to typhoon victims.
"The team will set up water purifiers in various communities with limited to no supply of clean water. Some will also help in the ongoing operations to clear the roads affected by massive flooding and landslides," said Artes.
The deployment followed after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed all government agencies to prioritize delivering supplies of drinking water to the typhoon victims in the province.
The team brought with them 40 units of portable water purification systems, which have the capacity of filtering 180 gallons of water per hour, and some materials for road clearing operations.
They have been tasked to coordinate with the 6th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army and stay in Maguindanao province for a period of 15 days.
Last week, severe tropical storm Paeng brought heavy rains and strong winds that affected thousands of people in Maguindanao and other parts of the country.
