MMFF Unveils New Logo, Theme Song for This Year’s Festival

After more than a month’s search, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) today announced the winning logo and theme song for this year’s MMFF event with the tagline “ReelRevolution.”
The MMFF Executive Committee said the “Jeepney” logo by Nawruz Paguidopon bested almost 400 entries received for the logo design competition.
The MMFF Execom said Paguidopon’s logo has been chosen because it was the simplest but the most iconic logo that truly represents change and embodies the new Festival’s vision, “Cinesama para sa Bagong MMFF.”
“An image of a popular Philippine Jeepney is the main concept for this proposed MMFF logo to signify movement in line for the new MMFF’s vision ‘CineSama para sa Bagong MMFF’,” the MMFF Execom said.
Paguidopon used geometric shapes with hues of red and blue to create the Jeepney which consists of iconic landmarks of selected cities in Metro Manila.
The wheels of the vehicle “constitute a film reel and the digital play button portrays the nature of the festival as the industry may seek to harmonize the new and old, analog and digital for its development,” the MMFF Execom said.
The MMFF said the jurors used the following criteria for the logo contest: a) Concept – 40%; b) Originality – 30%; and c) Relevance – 30%.
Meanwhile, the theme song “Cinesama Kayo” by Emilyn Ofindo won over the 13 other entries which were judged on the following criteria: a) Musicality – 30%; b) Lyrics – 30%; c) Originality – 30%; and d) Impact – 10%.
The jurors for the theme song competition include singer-songwriter and National Youth Commission chair Aiza Seguerra, balladeer and former Quezon City councilor Anthony Castelo, and iconic folk singer Heber Bartolome.
The logo and theme song competition ran from July 15, 2016 until August 31, 2016.
The winning logo will receive prizes of P20,000 in cash, all-access passes to all MMFF movies for two, and a Sony tablet, while the winning theme song will receive prizes of P50,000 in cash, all-access passes to all MMFF movies for two, and a Sony tablet.
