MMDA Seeks Justice for Slain Traffic Constable Shot to Death by Riding in Tandem
An on-duty traffic constable of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was shot dead early dawn by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Quezon City.
MMDA Chairman Emerson Carlos said the agency strongly condemned the gunning down of Traffic Constable Sydney Role early dawn today in Quezon City while on duty at the corner Commonwealth Avenue and Tandang Sora.
He said the agency would not be cowed by lawless elements wreaking havoc on the streets of the metropolis, stressing that it would not let up until the killers of one of its traffic constables is brought to justice.
“This act of senseless violence shall not go unpunished especially done to a government servant who was just doing his job,” Carlos said.
Sketchy report reaching the MMDA chief’s office in Makati City said Role was manning his post on the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and Tandang Sora around 3:20 a.m. when the traffic enforcer flagged down two men riding in tandem on a motorcycle which counter flowed along the route.
One of the men immediately got off the vehicle and shot Role twice in the head point blank. The two men sped off after seeing the traffic enforcer sprawled on the ground.
Members of the city’s Oplan Discipline in Barangay Batasan rushed Role with the help of other MMDA constables to the East Avenue Medical Center but doctors declared the traffic enforcer dead on arrival.
