What is the New Wave Student Short Film?

In order to give platform to all aspiring student filmmakers and to provide opportunity to expose their fresh talents, the 'MMFF New Wave Section' is inviting all colleges and universities in the Philippines to join in Student Short Film Festival. This is an inter-collegiate competition that serves to encourage the youth to develop their creativity and originality in story-telling.

Rules

1. Open to all representative/s from Colleges and Universities nationwide but limited only to those in Tertiary or Collegiate level.


2. All members of the Production Team must be officially enrolled in a school/university with good moral standing.


3. Entry must be duly approved and recommended by the concerned school authority.


4. All members of the Production Team must be officially enrolled in the said school/university with good moral standing.


5. The students' short film must run a maximum time of twenty (20) minutes.


6. Entries selected as finalists may not withdraw from the competition.


7. Only entries which have not been featured in other local and international festivals and competitions, and have not been entered in other film competitions are qualified to join.


8. Entries shall not have been, in any way, commercially exhibited here and/or abroad. "Commercially exhibited" means any show, display or presentation intended for viewing by members of the general public, the audience thereof being required to pay or give valuable consideration, monetary or otherwise, in exchange for viewing the same. Any film entry which has been shown in any regular, advance or preview screening for valuable consideration whether in movie theaters, television or other media or venue, shall be disqualified; provided: any non-revenue advance or preview screening for promotional purposes only shall not be disqualified as long as the producer shall submit at the time of applying as an entry for the film festival a sworn statement attesting to the non-revenue and promotional nature of the said exhibition.


9. Any kind of modifications except addition of necessary subtitles will not be allowed for final entries.


10. In accordance to the copyright laws, music used in any entry must be original, licensed or in the public domain.


11. The MMFF guarantees the safety of the submitted entries throughout the period in its custody. Its obligation is limited only to the replacement cost of the damaged DVDs and reproduction of new copies of entries when unavoidable circumstances like loss or damage happens to the entries.


12. The decision of the Board of Jurors is final and irrevocable. The board reserves the right not to give an award in any category should no entry merit it and the organizers and the judging committee are not obliged to give explanation for the results.


13. MMFF reserves the right to create, revoke, and modify at any time, in any way its entry requirements, rules and regulations at its absolute discretion without prior notice. Finalists and submitted entries shall be bound by any amendments or addition to the entry requirements, rules and regulations herewith.

Entry Requirements

The following requirements must be submitted on or before October 4, 2013 at the Office of the MMFF Secretariat, Office of the Chairman, MMDA Main Bldg. EDSA cor. Orense St. Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City:

1. Film entry in 5 DVD playable and AVI format;


2. Film entry in a regular 5x5 inch CD case with slip-on cover containing the following information: Entry Title; Total Running Time (TRT); Genre; Production Company Address; Contact Numbers; and Director's name.


3. Hard copy of the entry's synopsis;


4. Duly accomplished application form;


5. List of the main and supporting roles, including the production, technical and creative teams;


6. Poster Design;


7. Thirty-second movie trailer in playable and AVI format.


8. Students' Recommendation Letter from the concerned School/University officer in charge.


9. Students' Certificate of Enrollment for SY 2013-2014;

Selection of Finalists

Five (5) entries will be chosen as Finalists and will be announced on October 11, 2013. The Finalists' entries will be shown at selected cinema(s) from December 18-23, 2013. The Finalists will be chosen based on their content and choice of subject, story and screenplay including the high technical standards for cinematography, production design, sound, editing and other specialized aspects in filmmaking. Chosen finalists must comply with the following additional requirements in preparation for judges' and public screening:

1. Film entry's 30-second movie trailer in DVD format and AVI format, in 5 separate DVD copies.


2. Film entry with English subtitles (if the language used is other than Filipino language) in DCP Format;


3. Two (2) Playbill Poster Designs, 20 inches by 30 inches (20" x 30") and in JPEG format in burned CDs (Soft Copies).


4. Additional requirements as may be determined by the New Wave Student Films Committee.

Awards and Recognition

There shall be two awards to be given, to wit:

A. Best Picture	P50,000.00
B. Special Awards	25,000.00

All entries and requirements must be submitted on or before October 25, 2012 to the MMFF Secretariat, Office of the Chairman, MMDA Main Bldg. EDSA cor. Orense St. Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City.

Chosen finalists will be announced on November 5, 2012. Chosen finalists must comply with the additional requirements in preparation for judges' and public screening.

Final Selection

1. Film entry's movie trailer in DVD format and AVI Format (in 5 separate DVD copies) for backup purposes. Maximum of 1 minute movie trailer will be accepted.


2. Film entry with English subtitles (if the language used is other than English language) in DVD playable format and AVI format (in 5 separate DVD copies) for backup purposes.


3. Additional requirements as may be determined by the Board of Jurors.
